Job Overview:

Working with the Shipping Supervisor and shipping team, you are responsible in assisting with duties to ensure shipping instructions are adhered to and that orders are completed accurately. This includes organizing bagging supplies, tags, pallets and any other required supplies for the shift. You will be trained in the proper use of required equipment for this position which includes operating the autobagger, robotic shipping equipment, forklift and other related equipment. In addition, the individual is responsible for general duties such as maintaining the organization and the cleanliness of the facilities – inside and outside.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Once trained, responsible for all duties of a Shipper/Grain Handler at Simpson Seeds

    • Run the autobagger

    • Ensure all bag weights/counts are accurate

    • Load hopper cars

    • Drive forklift & cascade

  • Required to complete or confirm that all necessary shipping documents are done (i.e. Inspections forms, production sheets)

  • Record down time of shipping line and report to supervisor and/or Director of Operations

  • Ensure that all halfway, finished lots, and other quality procedures are completed before leaving each shift

  • Training new employees on autobagger operation, robot operation and shipping procedures

  • Perform routine inspections of all shipping equipment, conveyors and robotics

  • Responsible for maintenance and inspections (scheduled and non-scheduled) of all shipping equipment, grain conveying type equipment, electrical and compressor systems, autobagger and robots, used in the processes by the shipping department

  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to ensure all preventative monitoring is completed and recorded

  • Organize and maintain the Maintenance Log for existing and new equipment

  • Report all issues to the supervisor and/or Director of operations in a timely manner

  • Practice safe work practices while performing repair duties. Utilize safety equipment when required, such as eye, ears, hand protection and use of fall protection

  • Be available for “Call In” for shipping repairs after hours

Other duties as assigned by management

Job Qualifications:

Education: Grade 12 education or equivalent

Licenses and Certifications : Valid and insurable class 5 license

Work settings/conditions:

  • Exposed to dust and noisy conditions

  • Prolonged periods of standing (6 to 8 hours per day)

  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. as required

  • Required to work outdoors and in all different elements and temperatures

  • Exposed to heights on occasion
